ADB Young Professionals Program (YPP)

The Young Professionals Program (YPP) is an entry-level recruitment program to attract highly qualified and motivated individuals to ADB. YPP provides the foundation for a challenging and rewarding professional career in an international development environment and offers a wide range of opportunities to develop professional skills and understanding of ADB's operations, policies, and procedures. Under a structured talent management program, Young Professionals (YPs) will contribute to the achievement of ADB’s Strategy 2030.
Applications are open from 17 October to 15 November 2022. Applications should be submitted in English no later than 11:59 p.m., Manila time, on the specified closing date.
Program offerings
Selected Young professionals (YPs) are offered a fixed-term appointment of 3 years. YPs will be initially placed in one of the departments in the Headquarters (Manila) where they can gain foundational experience of ADB’s operations, then assigned to another department/office as a rotational assignment for 18 months. The rotational assignment will be carried out in a field related to the initial placement whereby YPs are expected to broaden their experience and deepen their knowledge on the subject matter.
Throughout the program, YPs will be offered a variety of development opportunities – they will participate in missions for activities in fact-finding and appraisal, project review and completion, country programming, sector and policy studies, or disbursement. They will also be entitled to a number of learning programs, both in-house and external, some of them specifically designed to cater for the needs of the YPs.
Towards the end of the program, YPs are encouraged to seek internal opportunities should they wish to remain in the Bank.
Eligibility
All YPs must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be 32 years old and below by 1 August 2023
- Be a national of one of ADB’s members
- Hold at least a first-level university degree with proven academic track record in a field relevant to the job role
- Have at least 3 years of professional experience relevant to ADB

Frequently Asked Questions: 2023 ADB YP Program
The application process opens around mid-October 2022, with a posting on the Careers at ADB website. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview between December and February.
Unfortunately, there is no flexibility on the age requirement. Only applicants born after 1 August 1990 will be considered.
The minimum requirement for the role is 3 years of relevant work experience. Candidates with less than 3 years of relevant experience will not be considered. Please note that internships can count as work experience, but it should be in a field relevant to ADB’s sector and themes.
Applications should be completed and submitted no later than 11:59 p.m., Manila time, on 15 November 2022. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed between December and February, with offers made in March.
The selection process consists of multiple stages, which includes an online psychometric assessment, written test, presentation, and virtual and/or face-to-face interviews.
Those who meet the eligibility requirements of the 2023 YPP can apply, regardless of how far along they progressed in the application process of previous years.

YPs are offered standard fixed-term contracts. It is a full-time fixed-term appointment for an initial period of three years. At the end of the three-year period, this appointment may be extended for one further fixed term, converted to a regular appointment, or not renewed.
YPs are recruited at International Staff Level 1 (IS1) on a standard fixed-term appointment with the first 12 months as probationary period. Upon confirmation at the end of the first 12 months, all confirmed YPs will be promoted to Level 2. YP’s promotion to Level 3 occurs when absorbed and regularized into a budgeted position.
All YPs begin employment at ADB either in a Solutions Department (Climate, Thematic, or Private Sector Operations Department) or major non-operational department in HQ, such as Economic Research and Regional Cooperation (ERCD), Office of Public-Private Partnership (OPPP), Strategy, Policy, and Partnerships (SPD), etc. The initial assignment will be for 18 months. Once cleared for rotation by the YP committee, the YP will be assigned to another sector/department.
