Raising Development Impact through Evaluation

Independent Evaluation

Evaluation is central to good corporate governance. ADB continually reviews its operations to assess their effectiveness, learn from past experience, and improve the development of future policies, strategies, programs, and projects.

Work Program: Independent Evaluation Department

To select priority topics for evaluation studies, the Independent Evaluation Department (IED) holds discussions with the Development Effectiveness Committee of ADB's Board of Directors, the President, and all Vice-Presidents. It also seeks inputs from the heads of ADB's operations departments. IED's work program has become more strategic and more integrated, with one evaluation feeding another.

The Independent Evaluation Department's rolling work program takes into account IED’s role in (i) providing timely input on the formulation of ADB strategies, policies, and programs; (ii) providing real-time feedback during loan processing and implementation; (iii) building evaluation capacity of regional departments and developing member countries; and (iv) producing strategically relevant knowledge on emerging regional development issues to inform ADB’s operations and development policies in its developing member countries.
