Supporting Health-Care Financing Reform in Mongolia: Experiences, Lessons Learned, and Future Directions

Publication | December 2022

This paper discusses Mongolia's health-care financing system and highlights lessons from reforms.

The reform of the health-care financing system in Mongolia has seen the establishment of health insurance as an additional source of funding, and the transition from an input-oriented financing model to an output-oriented model that is better suited to a market economy. The Asian Development Bank’s assistance in reforming health-care financing in Mongolia offers lessons that could be useful in supporting other countries across the region.
