Alessio Giardino is a senior water and climate change specialist with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He has 19 years’ professional experience in the water sector, including both specialized consultancy and research, with a specific focus on climate adaptation and disaster risk management.
In his current position in the Water Sector Group of ADB, Alessio is responsible in leading knowledge and innovation work to inform the design of climate change and resilience investment projects in the water sector, and to provide technical assistance to operational departments and developing member country (DMC) agencies.
Before joining ADB, Alessio worked at Deltares, as an expert adviser, research program manager, and team leader in assignments for the World Bank, ADB, IDB, and several national governments in the Pacific, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Alessio has a specific interest, supported by a solid project experience and publication track record, in coastal adaptation projects and research in Small Island Development States, to enhance resilience in some of the smallest and most vulnerable countries.
Alessio holds a MSc in Environmental Engineering (cum laude) from the University of Turin in Italy, and a PhD in Coastal Engineering from KULeuven in Belgium. He also served as a reviewer for IPCC and as guest lecturer in MSc programs and international conferences. His track record includes dozens of publications in international journals and conference proceedings.
