The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have severe impact on living conditions of socioeconomically vulnerable and marginalized segments of society. What is the extent of this impact and what are the measures taken to address the rising poverty and inequality caused by the pandemic? The webinar will present findings from the flagship report Key Indicators for the Asia and Pacific 2021, focusing on the pandemic’s impact on poverty and inequality, and a panel of experts from government and the development community will consider policy options.
Objectives
Attendees will engage with the panelists to:
- Understand the socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic with respect to multiple dimensions of development.
- Discuss expected trends in poverty and inequality as Developing Asia and rest of the world recover from the pandemic.
- Find out about the pandemic’s long-term implications on prospects for socioeconomic mobility of women, children, and other vulnerable members of society.
- Learn about measures taken to help those severely affected by the pandemic and lessons from these policy responses.
- Discuss ways for sustainable and inclusive recovery, to ensure that nobody will be left behind.
