Asia and the Pacific has been transforming before our eyes.

Its share in world GDP is increasing and this robust growth has dramatically reduced poverty in the region.

Yet, many people remain poor and inequality is a growing concern.

Climate change, environmental stress, and natural disasters pose growing risks.

Advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and robotics are accelerating, and the challenge for the region is to capitalize on these developments.

Several countries are aging fast, while in others, an expanding youth population presents both opportunities and challenges.

In response to this changing landscape, the Asian Development Bank has developed its new corporate strategy—Strategy 2030.

Building on 50 years of strong development partnership ADB will sustain its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty.

We will continue to work for an Asia and the Pacific that’s:

Prosperous, where countries experience steady economic growth and better opportunities for people.

Inclusive, where the gains and opportunities are shared by all.

Resilient, where vulnerable countries and communities can withstand crises that affect them.

And sustainable, where economic growth happens in harmony with nature.

Strategy 2030 is aligned with major global commitments.

There’s still a lot of work to do, as the region needs $1.7 trillion a year between 2016 and 2030 to meet its infrastructure needs.

We’ll continue to be the trusted partner of our developing member countries, adding value through financing, knowledge, and partnerships.

We’ll provide integrated solutions and use advanced technologies to match clients’ needs.

As the region changes, the countries also change—in different ways. To respond, we’ll customize our approach to each country, making sure we maximize results each time.

We’ll focus on 7 priorities:

  1. addressing poverty and inequality;
  2. accelerating gender equality in every element of ADB’s operations;
  3. tackling disasters, taking strong and urgent climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, and promoting environmental sustainability;
  4. making cities more livable;
  5. promoting rural development and food security;
  6. strengthening governance and institutions, and
  7. fostering regional cooperation and integration.

ADB will offer solutions in these areas by integrating its expertise across a range of sectors and themes.

We’ll scale up our private sector operations while staying focused on development impact. We’ll partner with others to mobilize more funds and expertise to support our clients better. And we’ll make sure that our knowledge is shared with those who need it, when they need it.

We’ll improve our own operations to become a stronger, better, and faster ADB.

Let’s work together to build a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific.
