ADBI Announces 25th Anniversary Essay Contest Winners

Tokyo, Japan – Daisy Singh of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has been named the top winner of the Asian Development Bank Institute’s (ADBI) 25th anniversary essay content for her piece on sustainable urban development in India.

Shujie Liang of the University of Sydney was named the second-place winner for her essay on water sustainability while Hazwan Haini of Universiti Brunei Darussalam earned third place honors for his work on the role of public-private partnerships, education, and digitalization in narrowing income inequality.

The winners were selected by ADBI experts out of 141 submissions from professionals and scholars 32 years old or under from Asian Development Bank (ADB) member economies. Entrants were asked to share their views on socioeconomic challenges that will significantly impact Asia and the Pacific over the next decade and should be prioritized by regional and global think tanks.

The essay contest themes reflected the operational priorities of ADB and included inclusive growth, gender equality, regional cooperation, livable cities, rural development and food security, governance, and climate change and environmental sustainability.

The winning essays will be featured in the ADBI Asia Pathways Blog.

The authors will be invited to present their work during the virtual ADBI 25th Anniversary Celebration on 1 December 2022 and receive a prize of $500, $300, and $200, respectively.
