1. INTERNSHIP TOPIC:
"Kazakhstan’s Financial Sector Diagnostic Study and Policy Recommendation"

2. SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Collect relevant data on key performance indicators of Kazakhstan's financial sector and conduct comprehensive diagnostic of the sector from the perspective of its role in and contribution to (i) financial intermediation, (ii) financial inclusion, and (iii) overall economic development of the country. The study should also include benchmarking as appropriate against both (i) OECD countries, and (ii) countries with similar income levels. As a key outcome, the study must clearly explain the binding constraints to the development of financial sector and provide policy recommendations, which should consider ongoing and planned reforms of the government

3. PERIOD OF ASSIGNMENT:
• Duration: 8 weeks (with a possibility of extension)
• Timing: June 2023

4. LOCATION: ADB Kazakhstan Resident Mission, Astana, Kazakhstan (or virtually, depending on prevailing travel restrictions)

5. EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
- dataset on key performance indicators of Kazakhstan's financial sector
- benchmarking against OECD member countries, and (ii) countries with similar income levels
- comprehensive diagnostic study of financial sector
- policy recommendations

Qualifications

6. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program in Economics, Finance, or related areas. A knowledge of statistics is a plus.

7. RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated research experience of at least 5 years, with 2 or more years in financial sector issues.
